H.F.B. Lynch, "Armenia. Travels and Studies" (1901)
Kurds
"Yusuf Bey of Köshk"
Yusuf Bey was the 'aşa (chief) of the Sipkanlı tribe, who at that time lived in the village of Köşk (now in the Hamur district of Ağrı province).
Lynch about the encounter with the Ağa, who was performing his prayers when the traveller arrived:
"The litany completed, our hosts at once turned towards us, with a sudden change of countenance, which took us by surprise. Yusuf Bey extended to us his massive but almost fleshless hand; his caverous cheeks were lit by a smile. He and his brother are men of more than ordinary proportions, and both are true types of the Kurd"
The Sipkanlı were one of the tribes that had joined the hamidiye regiments.
